from seeing

Kit drove Amy home in Sophie's battered Accord. Before Amy could get out, Kit suddenly locked the doors. Amy looked at her and settled back into the passenger seat.

"I need you to tell me the truth. You know what is going on. Spill it. Just to me. If you need to keep it a secret from the rest that badly, then ok. But you never keep secrets from me. I want the entire history. And I want it straight." This was the old Kit. The Kit that stayed in charge.

Tightening her lips, Amy nodded and looked straight ahead. Her hands clenched the seat belt still tightly fastened over her chest and belly as if it were the only thing holding her in. It was a few minutes before she spoke. Nothing moved.

"Anna's not coming back. I don't know exactly where she went, but I've been following the trails. I may need to go in search of her." Amy began and stopped. Her voice would not come through.

Kit ordered her to go on. The Truth. In no uncertain terms.

Amy said slowly. "And I may not come back either."
