carry

Amy picked Kit up at work the Friday after Kit had begun to learn to see Anna. She was driving Sophie's battered blue Honda Accord. Kit shuddered and said, "Look, I'll drive. Whatever made you come out here in the first place? I know you have more than enough to do trying to keep up with your studies with all that has happened."

Amy merely opened the passenger door and replied, "Please, Mom, just get in. For me."

Kit got in. And wondered fleetingly if she would have, if Anna had not disappeared. Would she have cared so much if she didn't know they could go that quickly?

Amy turned on the radio to Alice106. Kit reached over and turned it down low. Amy smiled and nodded.

When Amy drove up to the Harvest House, Kit said, "Look, we don't have time for this. We have so much to do, so much to organize at home. Who's watching the volunteers? Who's getting more volunteers and more information while we just sit here and eat?

Amy laid her hand on Kit's shoulder and said, "Please, Mom. I'm worried about you. I don't think you have eaten anything for the past week, I know you haven't slept--and yoou keep avoiding the computer and tv. Its as if you were seeing things.

Kit squeezed her hand hard. "Yes, you're right. Of course. Let's go in. Vegetarian lasagna with wheat bread--on me."

Amy laughed. "Don't ever forget the cinnamon tea--we'll pack some up and send it to Dad."
